You're playing that?!

For some it's this way, for others it's opposite

All of us have those game genres that we absolutely cannot stand! The question is why? Why do most girls hate sport and killing games? Why do most guys love those? It's all a matter of opinion!

Personally I can't stand games that involve guns and shooting/killing or games that you play a sport in! Every time I see one of my little brothers playing those types of games I say something along the lines of, "You're playing that?" Every time they answer back, "This game is awesome!" I have never ever understood it.

I'm not saying those games are lacking in any way (especially considering the fact that shooting games improve your reaction speeds in real life), I just really hate those types of games! I'm more of a strategizing kinda gal myself!

I believe girls are more peace-loving and calm, and that's why the majority of us love games genres like RPG and Platformers. Men, on the other hand, love the action and adrenaline that come with fast paced shooting games.

What about you? What kind of games do you enjoy most to play? Why do you think that certain people enjoy certain games? Leave your response in the comment section below! We love to hear from you guys!

  1. Personally I think shooters are just ok and sports games are fun if they have the words Mario or Wii in the title. My favorite genre is platformers, specifically 3D platformers. I would also say I lie action/adventure games but that is way to broad a genre so I'll just say Zelda games or anything like them. Also you say you don't like killing in games but RPG games have a lot of that. I don't know how many slimes I have killed in DQIX.

    1. Hahahaha touche! I guess to be more specific, I don't like the whole gun/action/killing other humans/blood type of games...well that sorta narrowed it down...sorta

    2. I think it's the difference between "violence" and "fantasy violence" (that's one reason why ESRB ratings are useful). Plain old "violence" involves humans, whereas "fantasy violence" involves non-human things. Slimes are about as far from human-like has it's possible to be.

But yeah, I'm with you Zack, the only sports games I've truly enjoyed have been the Wii ones.

  2. I like Fighting games, RPG and sports games. I like Fighting for the fast action and the online competition, RPGs for indulging plotlines and character development, and sports because, well, Notre Dame is awesome.

I don't really like Shooters because they all seem like the same game except with a different setting and different weapons.

    1. So true about shooters. Except that I've been playing Metroid Prime lately, and I think it's pretty good...mostly for the atmosphere and design. The actual shooting gameplay, however, is pretty weak in my opinion.

  3. I'm all over the place. Platforming is probably my least favorite, where as RPG's and Sports games chew up the majority of my time. But even so, I play FPSs, Puzzle games, Strategy games, Fighters and even some platformers (the Mario games are too amazing to pass on generally). But if I had to pick a single genre that sits best with me, it's probably RPG's that I have traditionally sunk

Personally, I agree with you! I usually play the cute, innocent games like Mario, Angry Birds and Animal Crossing. I have seen some games where the person skate boarding swears and bleeds, and it's totally not attractive...although I can't remember the name of it. I really can't stand extra violent games or movies. I just agree with you. Girls are more gentle, and guys are more rough. It's just in our nature. :)

  5. I noticed rhythm games haven't been mentioned, and I tend to like those. The problem is that there's a shortage of unique, original rhythm games. Guitar Hero and Just Dance games are alright, but games like Elite Beat Agents, Samba de Amigo, and both Rhythm Heavens have style and imagination that I appreciate a lot.

Aside from the rhythm genre, I'm a fan of RPGs, racers, platformers, RTSs, action/adventures, simulations, puzzles...every genre has its strong entries, I think.
