Time to bring back some old writing of mine! I didn't date this review, but I'm sure I couldn't have been older than 15 when I wrote it. Let's get to the review!

After the success of Banjo-Kazooie, a sequel was created. It was called Banjo-Tooie.
Despite the fact that it's quite difficult to beat the game, Banjo-Tooie has a lack of frustrations and is a lot of fun. The music, design and color of each level are unique to their themes, which makes it really fun to explore them to find the treasures: puzzle pieces. The game has oodles of mini-games scattered throughout the main quest portion. These games are used in the incredibly fun multi-player mode.
Unfortunately, as I got into the more difficult levels of the game, it became boring to hunt for puzzle pieces. I found that I started the game over repeatedly to enjoy the other levels again. I never did beat the whole game.
Overall, Banjo-Tooie is an awesome game. I particularly enjoyed the playful soundtrack and colorful environments. And the multi-player is one of the best I've ever played. It's a shame that the last 1/4 of the game isn't as good as the first 3/4 of it.
Rating: 9.0/10.0
Okay, back to the present! No, I won't call this an official review. Too many problems. Like the fact that I never finished the game. My policy is to review games only when I've seen the ending credits at the very least. The review is also very short and vague. Come on 15-year-old-me! Concrete details! Thank goodness Mary is a better writer at 15 than I was!
Very nice - I like finding some of my older 'reviews' - I found a Neverwinter Nights one from like 8 years ago and posted it on my blog somewhat recently. :)
ReplyDeleteI never did play this game, but it sounds like you enjoyed it despite the sharp difficulty.
Yeah, I did like it a lot. Back then it was rare that I ever finished a game other than Ocarina of Time (I could beat that in my sleep). I'm still like that today. Not as bad, of course, but I do get frustrated fairly quickly.
DeleteI'm pretty good about finishing out video games, and always was. Of course, on the older games for the NES and SNES, they didn't all use passwords or batteries and as a result had a tendency to be shorter games too.
DeleteI think it's cool you wrote this sort of thing up though at that age. I'm trying to encourage my son to start up a blog this summer (he's 13) about gaming. It likely wouldn't be anything like mine, he tends to stick to a few games and just play the daylights out of them (like Minecraft), but I think it would be a good exercise in his writing skills while still being on a topic he's interested in. :)
Blogging is a great way to practice writing! I've improved tremendously in just the year that I've been doing it, and I still get better and better as I continue. Plus, blogs can be on any topic under the sun, so anyone can benefit from it!
DeleteMuch better than I wrote at 15, Holly! :D
