Periodically I would like to discuss the results of the polls that I have on the sidebar of the blog, which I change weekly. They don't get a lot of votes, so I'll just cover a few of them briefly:
Poll 1: Which Nintendo hero/heroine is your favorite?
Link swept this poll with 54% of the 11 votes that were gathered. He was followed by none other than Mario with 18%. Samus, Star Fox, and Kirby tied with 1 vote each, and Donkey Kong was left without a single vote. This was largely a predictable outcome, except that I'm somewhat surprised that Donkey Kong didn't receive any love. I would expect him to at least outrank Star Fox.
Poll 4: Which non-Nintendo systems do you own?
Only five people voted on this poll, but the results are more dynamic than that number shows due to the ability of the voter to choose multiple answers. PlayStation 2 beat its competition with four votes. PlayStation Portable came in second with 2 votes, and Xbox 360 and None of the Above tied for the third place spot with 1 vote apiece. I'm rather surprised that the PlayStation 3 didn't get any votes in this poll. But even I own a PlayStation 2, which is a testament to the appeal of that system (though I only have two games on it: Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II).
Poll 9: Would you consider yourself more of a casual gamer or a hardcore gamer?
Last, but not least, we look at one of the latest polls to grace the blog. "I'm a casual gamer" won this one with 75%, or 3 votes. "I'm a hardcore gamer" received only 1 out of 4 votes. I find this to be interesting, especially considering that I'm the one who voted "I'm a hardcore gamer". What does this mean? To me it says that the few votes I'm getting only come from the friends and family who support the blog because it's me, not because they actually like video games. I appreciate it! Hardcore gamer or not, though, I thank anyone who has ever once voted on a poll within this blog! A great weekend to everyone!

I'd almost recommend making the poll section stand out a bit more color-wise to attract people's attention -- but, on the other hand, I like the current slick, clean look of this site!
ReplyDeleteCatching up on polls I wasn't around for:
I don't think I can count Professor Layton as a true Nintendo character, so I'll say Mario's my favorite Nintendo hero.
PS2's the last non-Nintendo system I bought. Love Kingdom Hearts!
I'm now a casual gamer, though I'm gonna borrow Blake and Derek's "Cas-core" label! :) I love, love, love the imaginative potential of games at their best, but I just don't have time for epic RPGs anymore!
BTW, based on your Infendo review, I picked up Rhythm Heaven Fever today. LOVE IT!!! :) Thanks for the recommendation!

Sadly, I have yet to play a Professor Layton game, heheh. Unfortunately, I can't burden myself with worrying about it too much right now: I'm too preoccupied with a slew of other games, including Xenoblade Chronicles!
DeleteI'm a Kingdom Hearts fan myself! I'm really excited for Dream Drop Distance, but I'm only on KH II, meaning I've got another two games to play afterwards to get caught up, not counting Birth By Sleep or whatever the PSP one is called.
Glad you like Rhythm Heaven Fever! I beat the whole thing a long time ago, but still play it frequently, sometimes by myself, sometimes to show it to other musically-inclined friends of mine. In fact, Fever may have convinced one friend to get a Wii for herself!
*Blushes* here's an admission - I usually miss polls on the side unless they're called out. In fact, I didn't even notice the new one for Mario until I saw your article, and THEN looked over and voted (I tossed in an 'I'm interested'). Because I would have likely come in on the hardcore side of the fence for #9 and my systems for the other poll would have been much more extensive as well.
ReplyDeleteI've only run 2 or 3 polls on my blog in the past, but generally they did not see much traffic. The only time I would see spikes? When I made an article calling them out as well.
Eh, don't worry about it! I don't expect a lot of votes, so I'm never disappointed. I appreciate any votes I do get, however! So thanks for any contribution you make, large or small!
DeleteSorry I just voted just barely. Was out of town, lol. Happy graduation to us!!! I had lots of fun with you and I love that video game you were playing. :D Check your email!!! :)
ReplyDeleteKid Icarus: Uprising is the name of that game, and it is a really good one! I wish I could show you the rest of the story in a better way than playing while you lean over the screen to see! It has such a great plot!
