It's all the game designers faults! I promise!!

This man that I drew is obviously very frustrated,
because he can't figure out where to go!
Ever since both video games and Google existed there has always been the option of "cheating." My question is, does finding out cheats make a game more or less fun? What I mean is when you get stuck at a certain part of the game and you just can't get past it. As Holly said, "If they don't make it obvious enough that I can find it, I feel like I'm wasting my time!" This is where Google comes in handy! The only thing is that if you look it up online you feel less accomplished.

Actually there are a lot of different ways you can "cheat" in a game. There's finding actual cheats that can give you unlimited ammo or money (i.e. Sims, Call of Duty, etc). There's the helpful cheat that helps you find your way (i.e. walkthroughs of some sorts). Cheats that can help you get better at a game when you are not actually that great at all (i.e. fighting games that give you new combos of some sorts). Last there's...well now that I think about it I think that's all of them! Do these things make the game you are playing less fun? Personally I really don't think so! Heck, the reason why I'm looking them up is because I'm not having any fun at all trying to find out what to do! At that point I could care less about feeling accomplished! I just want to get past that impossible part in the game!

It's not really our fault, is it? I mean the game designers should think about those who don't have the awesome opportunity to be able to stay home for hours on end and play video games, just to be able to figure out how to get past that part! I wish I could; believe me I think we'd all rather play games than go to school and work on endlessly huge assignments! That's why we look for cheats! It's so we can get over with that game and go on to the next; so many games, so little time, right? Anyways, what do you guys think? Should cheats be an everyday thing, a once in a while thing, or should we all just suck it up and figure it out ourselves? Let us know in the comments below! Until my next ranting, see ya!

  1. I hate to feel frustrated, but I also hate to feel like I've taken the easy way out...this has led to many unfinished video games in my life. I don't consider using a walkthrough to be cheating, though. And I think it's alright to use it when you simply CANNOT figure out what to do next in a game. I may as well admit it while we're on the topic: I used the web ONCE to help me out in Skyward Sword!

  2. Personally, when I get stuck on video game, I love to look at cheats. I would rather not spend HOURS like you mentioned, finding out what to do next. My dilemma is usually with Angry Birds, when I just can't figure out how to get the pigs on the hard levels. Personally, I'm still a beginner with Angry Birds, but pretty good at the not-so-hard levels. It would be nice to have a cheat here and there. Because, like others, I don't have all day to pass one level! :/

  3. I'm just about halfway through skyward sword, and I havn't used a walkthrough yet, and I'm not gunna. It's elongates the experience of the game, and the sense of accomplishment is WAY worth it. Of course if your stuck on a place for more than a week, you may want to consider, but I don't recommend using walkthroughs, it helps you appreciate puzzles, and learn how to solve them next time.

    1. Agreed. It's a blessing that I grew up on Zelda, so I have a feel for what the puzzles are like in each successive game in the series.
