Rune Factory Frontier is pretty much the exact same way. A little rough around the edges: load times are rather atrocious, and you find yourself encountering them much too often because the segments between load times are painfully small. But infinitely addictive: the game has all of those key RPG elements that submerge the player into the experience like nothing else can. And, like we all know from the time Harvest Moon first began, taking care of a farm and livestock can be surprisingly addictive. Rune Factory Frontier is definitely worth your time whether you're a Harvest Moon/Rune Factory pro or a newbie to the series.
A Game I Should Have Finished: Metroid: Other M
Nope, I never did finish this one. Other M belongs to a category that I like to call "Deep, Engrossing Games". In other words, the player needs to devote more than just a few minutes at a time to it. And one can only play so many "Deep, Engrossing Games" at the same time. Right now, those are Okami and Kingdom Hearts II for me, and I barely have time to play those. Someday I will finish Metroid: Other M and give it a proper review.

Now this is a game I've watched for awhile, but just never picked up. Metroid: Other M was a lot of fun, I reviewed it positively despite some of the bad press it got. In the end, it really doesn't take too long to beat, but I concur it doesn't make for bite-sized playing sessions either.
ReplyDeleteYeah, sheesh people! So Samus's voice work needed a little more, well, work! So what! The gameplay is actually quite phenomenal if you ask me. Anyways, now that you tell me it doesn't take long to beat, I might move it up a little in my to-play list.
DeleteYeah, it was a risky move going story heavy and voice acted on a character that had been silent so long. Still, the game itself was a lot of fun in my opinion. And as for beating the game? I think it only took me about 9-10 hours in total. There's some extra stuff you can do once you beat the game to get a higher rate of completion, but I didn't bother with that for too long.
DeleteI'm not a real big video game fan, but I'll admit I like reading your writing. Personally, the video games I like are Mario, Zelda and Angry Birds, although I usually watch other people play them (Angry Birds is the one I play the most). Receiving your email updates (from your blog) usually helps my day go better, however. Just thought you ought to know.
ReplyDeleteWell, thank you for that, anonymous!
DeleteI actually don't mind Samus' voice work :S
ReplyDeleteBack on topic; I also enjoyed A wonderful life despite its shortcomings, bit haven't tried the Rune Factory games yet. I know someone who talks about them all the time, so it's odd that I haven't played it yet, regardless, I've heard nothing but good things.
