Strange and unusual gaming habits

For as long as I can remember, I have played every side scrolling Mario game with the tip of my thumb constantly pressing down the "Y" button (or the "1" button). Those of you who consider yourself to be good at Mario know why this is. Because constantly dashing is the only way to be good at Mario!

So when I play a side scrolling platform game that isn't Mario, you can understand why I still press that "Y" or "1" button, even when it has no effect on that particular title's gameplay. I've done this in basically every Kirby game I've ever played. And, most recently, I've done it while playing Rayman Origins for Wii. These games actually have their own method of dashing. In Kirby games, a double tap of the d-pad in the desired direction typically triggers the dash. The "B" button on the back of the Wii remote is the dashing method for Rayman Origins on Wii.

Another strange and unusual gaming habit I have is scrolling past Kaepora Gaebora's dialogue in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Or wait....is that something everyone does? By the way, Kaepora Gaebora is the owl. That obnoxious, long winded owl!

Putting my Wii remote wrist strap on might also be a strange and unusual habit. I don't even have to think about it, but I've noticed that very few other people think to put it on.

What strange and unusual gaming habits do you have? Is it strange and unusual to scroll past Kaebora Gaebora's dialogue, or is that something everyone does?

  1. I have some of the same habits as you. Such as the mario one and the wrist strap one. Another funny one would be that I go so used to shaking the wii remote on Mario Kart Wii that when I went back to playing the DS one, I would constantly shake the DS! Ths would result in the top half of the DS to go backwards and would totally mess me up!

    1. That's hysterical! Come to think of it, I do the same thing with New Super Mario Bros. 2, because in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, shaking the Wii remote gives you an often lifesaving pause in midair! Nope, it doesn't work on the 3DS!

  2. I totally know what you mean about pressing the "y" button!! I swear I have calluses on my thumb from it...

    1. Yep! It's just the way to go, isn't it? And Mario isn't the only game that works that way...the Donkey Kong Country games also use "Y" to dash, don't they! Not helping me break the habit for Rayman Origins and Kirby!

  3. I agree! That owl in Zelda is annoying!!! Whenever my brother or I play that game, we zip through what he says too lol.

  4. I am one of the VERY FEW people that actually liked Kaebora Gaebora. I'm sure why, but I never found him annoying at all. A bit creepy in the way that he follows you, but his dialogue never bothered me.

I guess my weird habit would be throwing mild trash talk at the game when I play one-player. It just shows how competitive I can be, even against a computer.

By the way, I nominated you for the Liebster Blog award. Check out the post on my blog for more info :)
