StreetPass: Changing Perspectives

The Nintendo 3DS system was released on March 27, 2011. I got my system on April 1, 2011, and I'm not even fooling you. Ahem...anyway! I've been seeking StreetPass encounters ever since. My very first tag was arranged, so it felt pretty cheap. You could say my first genuine tag was a few weeks later when I went to the local Taco Time and came home with that green light on!

Up until the end of August this year, StreetPass tags were rare and special occasions for me. Then I moved to a significantly bigger town with a significantly larger college campus than I previously attended. Talk about culture shock! Most of the changes seemed awful to me, but one change did not: increased probability for StreetPass tags! I mean, they actually happen in big places? And not only that, but they happen often in big places?! Now I can expect StreetPass tags almost daily, and there are even a couple of regulars that I've tagged more than once.

How have your perspectives changed (or stayed the same) on StreetPass?

  1. Its actually lessened a bit.
I got my 3DS on launch day and was very excited for Streetpass functionality. At first, the Streetpasses came in slow... once a month, maybe two a month.

But then my area started forming Streetpass Communities. (There are actually 3 separate Streetpass Communities only a highway drive away from one another - one of them held meetings often and even made official events for people to look forward to) That got me excited! Suddenly I was getting (AT LEAST) 50 Streetpasses every month! How awesome is that??
Then my girlfriend got a 3DS, now I was getting Streetpasses EVERY DAY.

    ...
    But then...
Well, I don't even attend the Streetpass Communities anymore, and now I don't even SEEK Streetpasses.
I still bring my 3DS with me everywhere I go (and with my awesome 3rd party battery that lasts me at DAYS at a time, I rarely had to worry for a charge) and still smile when I get a Streetpass... but now it's so common (even outside of the Communities, I can find 5-10 Streetpasses in a day if I travel enough - and NONE of them repeat) that I find myself uninterested in making anything new with it [such as new Streetpass Greetings, new Streetpass Items to exchange, etc].

I think it's because there's nothing new TO DO with it.
Every puzzle I get? I can complete it within 2 weeks time (even with those rare pink pieces). I've practically earned every hat in the Find Mii games. And what's up with people not setting up a Streetpass for SwapNote?? There's nothing for me left to look forward to.

I have my favorite weapon already set in Kid Icarus Uprising. I'm tired of switching to my Street Fighter 3D cartridge just to watch the trophies bash against one another. And without customizations of any sort, the Dead or Alive Streetpass fights are starting to feel just like an AI battle rather than someone having a unique character of their own (and for the most part, people I've fought always fight the same way in their AI - it is interesting when I find someone using unique strategies though). It's rare when I find anyone with Rhythm Thief. And I know for hecking sure that the Freakyforms streetpasses are getting aggravating (fewer and fewer creative makers out there - far more people who just slap pieces together and decide to pass that along).

In-all: I've earned everything I've wanted for every game that I can gain in Streetpass. There's nothing left to look forward to. So I'm losing interest in the function quickly...
I know once Animal Crossing comes out, and once more games that have streetpass functions that actually HELP the replay value of said game come out - then I'll be more than happy.

But for now: Getting the same things over and over again for Streetpasses is getting... dare I say it: boring. And that saddens me, because I love streetpass.

    1. Funny how you're just the opposite of me! I'm more excited than ever to get StreetPasses! But perhaps, like you, I'll end up getting used to them. For now, though, I still have puzzles to complete and even hats to collect.

Question for you: do you have New Super Mario Bros. 2? I get Coin Rush data fairly often, and it's a pretty awesome StreetPass concept.

    2. Sadly, I do not. :( I've been meaning to get it, but more important purchases have been getting in the way since it released (gas, bills, hotel payments, etc) - and now with Pokemon Black 2/White 2 as well as Code of Princess releasing in the earlier part of next month, there's no way I can buy it soon (to further push it back is the release of Denpa Men on the eShop, which I want to get too -- as well as Tokyo Jungle on the PSN).

Definitely would get it once I have money to spare (and don't have those other games to buy).

  2. It's been pretty much the same for me, but I just don't have the opportunities to street pass very often. I live in a small town, work in a small town and drive so there's no bus/subway interaction. My only regular street pass person is my son. He has gotten a few hits from school, but not many, and outside of him I only have 2 ever.
