Sometimes I feel like these games come from out of nowhere! Whether that's true or not, I think we can all agree it's often a good thing.
So! Code of Princess. According to the official site, it's a beat 'em up with RPG elements, due for a Nintendo 3DS release on October 9th, developed by Atlus and Kinu Nishimura. I'm afraid to say that name doesn't mean much to me, but you get a pretty keen sense of her creativity and imagination just by looking at the concept art.
There are some gaming realms I have yet to really dive into, and the beat 'em up genre is definitely one of those. Maybe it's just me, but Code of Princess seems to throw together a lot of elements that you wouldn't normally expect to see together. When I think "beat 'em up", I think buff guy in some big city, takin' out bad guys. Am I wrong? Most likely. Anyway, beat 'em up + RPG + fantasy storyline that involves monsters and massive swords...it just doesn't seem to add up. However, I must say I'm intrigued by the whole idea.
And beyond that, there isn't much else for me to say. I love it, though! The gaming industry holds so much magic and variety, I wonder if I'll ever get bored or run out of new things to try! What are your thoughts on Code of Princess?
This is one I've been keeping an eye on since I first heard about it. It looks like a lot of fun, I like the art direction - it should be interesting. :)
ReplyDeleteYep, I've said it before, but I'll say it again: RPG elements can be a great addition to basically any genre.
DeleteSo are you a fan of beat 'em ups?
I concur with the RPG elements. Truth be told, they often factor into my interest in games like Call of Duty with their experience/unlock systems, and I love how sports games use how well you played in an experience system of sorts for players and such.
DeleteI do actually enjoy the beat 'em ups - I grew up on arcade classics like Double Dragon and the arcade Ninja Gaiden, Golden Axe, etc. In fact I just tossed up a review on the new PSN release of Double Dragon: Neon, which works in some lightweight RPG elements of its own
As a person who loved Guardian Heroes (same makers) for the Sega Saturn, I will without-a-doubt buy this game.
ReplyDeleteCode of Princess is basically the same game (RPG beat em up with multiplayer options) with different characters, attacks, and storylines, which is fine with me~!
I put a ton of hours into GH, and I know CoP will give me the same amount of replay value - especially now that I have someone to play it consistently with (back then I only had my brothers to play with, and we'd just bicker over what game to play).
I like all genres - so RPGs and Beat-Em-Ups are fine with me, though I usually prefer my RPGs to be solo and my Beat-Em-Ups to by multiplayer. But how Guardian Heroes mixed the two genres was ingeniously comfortable (it made people wonder why it wasn't done sooner or more often). I'm sure this will do the same, if not better.
...I just wish the main girl would put on some more clothes. She looks... cold. ^^;
Can't say I like all genres, but I'm always willing to give unfamiliar ones a shot. And I have been brought to a knowledge of a lot of great games that way! The FPS and the Metroid Prime series. The puzzler and Pushmo. The point-and-click and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. If CoP is received well and I have some extra money (not likely to happen, but one can dream!)I would love to get it!
