So I guess this is what Teddy Roosevelt's dog looked like...

My little hometown here only has a couple of thousand people in it, and I'd have to travel several hours just to have a chance for a StreetPass encounter. So the most exciting "notifications" I've gotten on the 3DS have been SpotPass ones. SpotPass is just the method by which special content comes in from a wireless internet connection. This morning, this cute little guy came into my Nintendogs+cats game with his owner: Teddy Roosevelt. His name is Pete, and he and my puppy, Molly, had a great time at the park! This is a pretty neat way to compensate for the lack of StreetPass opportunity some of us suffer from.

Honestly, the name SpotPass seems misleading to me. It's the means of obtaining content through an internet connection. When I put my 3DS in sleep mode with the Nintendogs+cats cartridge inserted, I'm likely to receive content for my game (as long as the wireless is active on my Nintendo 3DS and the system is still in range of the wireless connection I have at home).

StreetPass, on the other hand, is a wireless connection between two 3DS systems. If two 3DS owners happen to pass each other with both of their systems in sleep mode, with the wireless being active, information can be swapped. I think the physical range of this extends to about 30 feet.

  3. Wow! That's awesome! I got my 3DS the first day it came out and have yet to do Street or Spotpass. *SIGH* :)

Yeah, StreetPass can be a stretch for some of us, but I'm sure it'll get better as the 3DS becomes more popular.
